About Govas

GOVAS works closely with the Stockport Children and Young People Directorate, but we are a fully independent association of governors affiliated to the equally independent National Governors Association. Every governor in Stockport is automatically a GOVAS member (as long as your institution pays their subscriptionof £10.00 PA)and our Management Committee is made up exclusively of serving volunteer governors in Stockport’s schools – nursery, primary secondary and special. Our biggest strength is our links with all the school governors in Stockport through our newsletter, special communications, and this website.  

 

Nomination formBookings are now being taken for the GOVAS AGM on MONDAY 9th JULY from 6- 8 pm. The venue will once again be Priestnall School, Priestnall Road, Heaton Mersey, Stockport SK4 3HP, with refreshments and a light buffet available from 5.30 pm. (PLEASE NOTE THE MEETING IS IN CAFE MERSEY), and access is via Priestnall Road, next to the leisure centre, with car parking available in the leisure centre car park just further on from the main school entrance. Please note -there is NO parking or event access via the school main entrance

Our guest speaker is Anne Seneviratne, who is a Her Majesty's Inspector ( HMI) whose presentation will reflect on her report " Key Stage 3- The Wasted Years? and on OFSTED's latest thinking about the school curriculum.

Anne is a qualified English teacher and has taught across the full secondary range. Anne has a range of senior leadership experience in secondary schools as head of sixth form, assistant principal and vice principal. Prior to working for Ofsted, she was an academy principal. Anne inspects a range of provisions including primary, secondary and independent schools. She also inspects Initial Teacher Education partnerships. Anne is a member of the Ofsted quality assurance team and the national training team. She has particular expertise in school leadership, sixth form and English.
