About Govas
GOVAS works closely with the Stockport Children and Young People Directorate, but we are a fully independent association of governors affiliated to the equally independent National Governors Association. Every governor in Stockport is automatically a GOVAS member (as long as your institution pays their subscriptionof £10.00 PA)and our Management Committee is made up exclusively of serving volunteer governors in Stockport’s schools – nursery, primary secondary and special. Our biggest strength is our links with all the school governors in Stockport through our newsletter, special communications, and this website.

NOTES
When filling in this form you should be aware of the regulations laid down in the GOVAS Constitution regarding nomination to the Management Committee. These are summarised below:

All nominees must be a governor of a publically funded school whose Governing Body is a member of GOVAS, within Stockport Area.

All Proposers and Seconders must be governors of publicly funded schools whose Governing Body is a member of GOVAS, within Stockport Area.

No Governing Body may have more than one elected member on the Management Committee. In the event of there being two successful nominees from one Governing Body, the nominee with the highest number of votes will be elected. The other nominee will not be elected, but may request that they are considered for co-option.

Incomplete, illegible or incorrectly completed forms will not be accepted.

Completed nomination papers should be returned to the Secretary of the GOVAS Management Committee no later than the closing date as stated on Notice of AGM.

MINUTES
1 Welcome by the Chair
The Chair opened the meeting and welcomed those attending the meeting.
About 20 people were in attendance.
2 Apologies

3 Approval of minutes of last AGM held on 21st January 2021
The minutes were approved.
4 Matters arising from minutes
There were no matters arising.
5 Notification of AOCB
There was no AOCB.
6 Chairs Report
The Chair thanked members of the Management Committee for their support throughout this difficult year.She announced that Jurgen Roling, Ian Roberts and Mike Milne were standing down and thanked them for their contribution to the work of Govas. It was noted that Jurgen Roling would still provide technical support. Thanks also to the Local Authority who we had met several times over the year for its assistance.
As they recover from Covid,many schools now face severe financial problems including the need to finance pay rises and the increasing cost of energy.These
issues will inevitably require the full involvement of Governors.
The Government require all schools to become Academies by 2030. The following 8years will soon pass and there will be complex issues for Governors to resolve.
Report ended by thanking the many people who volunteer their time and skills to ensure the governance of schools throughout Stockport.
7 Treasurer’s Report and Balance Sheet
The Treasurer’s Report was presented. It showed how Govas is funded and how the money is spent.He said we are still encouraging Academies to join Govas.
8 Election of Management Committee Members
4 existing members of the Committee had applied for re-election. Stephen Campbell,
Anne Rogowski,Anthony Hesford, Dave Trafford. They were elected for a further two years.
There were no other nominations.

The original AGM on Thursday 21st September 2023 was not quorate. It has now been rearranged as a VIRTUAL presentation for Thursday 23rd November 2023 at 7.00pm.
The Agenda and all relevant papers are to be found on the Govas website.
It will be a chance for Governors to let us know how you feel about the work of GOVAS and how it represents the interests of Stockport Governors.
We would also be delighted if you would consider taking a more active role in the work of GOVAS by being nominated for the Govas Management Committee. At the moment there are 8 positions open for election or re-election. There are also 4 co-opted places available.
A Nomination Form is included with the AGM papers. Please complete it and return it to the Secretary P M Eveson at 2 Wittenbury Rd ,Stockport, SK4 3LX by Wednesday 22nd November 2023
