About Govas

GOVAS works closely with the Stockport Children and Young People Directorate, but we are a fully independent association of governors affiliated to the equally independent National Governors Association. Every governor in Stockport is automatically a GOVAS member (as long as your institution pays their subscriptionof £10.00 PA)and our Management Committee is made up exclusively of serving volunteer governors in Stockport’s schools – nursery, primary secondary and special. Our biggest strength is our links with all the school governors in Stockport through our newsletter, special communications, and this website.

As promised by the LA during the consultation period and implementation of the new schools funding review for April 2013, the local funding formula has been reviewed by a sub-group of the Schools Forum.
The sub-group have looked at:
- Increasing the level of funding distributed via the Basic Entitlement funding factor;
- Assessing the option of reducing the level of funding distributed via deprivation funding factors in light of other funding streams allocated to schools (i.e. Pupil Premium Grant)
- Reviewing the level of funding allocated to schools as a lump sum; and
- A review of the level of funding allocated to schools for low cots, high incidence SEN, particularly in the secondary sector

A number of options have been proposed, including

maintaining the existing formula, and these are now available for consultation, by following the link below. Following the formula implemented earlier this year, a number of schools have found that they are struggling financially. No formula is going to please everyone and, although the temptation is to look at which option gives the best result for your school, as governors, we should be taking a wider view of the Stockport school community, and trying to ensure that the funding formula is a fair as possible. (supporting documentation can be found here item1 - item2 - item3 - item4 - item5 further information can be found at office online)
Please engage with your schools in reviewing the options in the consultation and ensure that your voice is heard.
