Reasons to be cheerfull....

 headersmallDear Colleagues,

It’s official - we are the best! Stockport has the highest percentage of leadership and management judged as good or outstanding in the North West (Ofsted North West Regional Report). We also come out well in the percentage of primary pupils attending good or outstanding schools (2nd in the North West, 9th nationally), and not too bad in the same category for secondaries (4th locally, 52nd nationally). Overall, Stockport comes out well from this report, and we should certainly take time to celebrate this.(link to National report)

Like the good leaders we are, once we have finished the celebration, we should turn our attention to those areas where we need to improve. The standout one is closing the gap between Free School Meal children and their peers. Do you know how your school is performing? If you do not have a copy yet, the FFT Governor Data Dashboard will give you an indication of this performance, as will the data for your school on the DfE website.

This will be a key theme of the 2015 Stockport Governor Conference, being held at Marple Hall School on Saturday 7th March. Other topics that we will be covering in the workshops are: Child Sexual Exploitation/Safeguarding; Use of Technology in schools; How to measure progress - Life without Levels; Recruiting, Training and Developing governors; and school-to-school collaboration, with a focus on Multi-Academy Trusts. Full details and booking information will be sent out in January. This year’s conference was full and we received very good feedback on it, so we would urge you to put this in your diaries now.

Finally, this year’s schools’ finance consultation had a better response from the primary sector, to which it was aimed, so that was a step in the right direction, although there was still almost one third of schools that did not respond. An update on the LA response to the consultation can be found on our web-site (click here)
